There's still time to register! Join members of the GS1 Architecture Group for a webinar on April 25th to learn about GS1 System Architecture and Architecture Principles.

The GS1 System Architecture is articulated around the “Identify, Capture and Share” concepts. It provides an architectural view of how the components of the GS1 System fit together and help guide the development of future standards.

The development of the GS1 System is based on defined principles. Applying these principles in practice during the development of the GS1 System enables GS1 to continue offering a world-class system of standards for the benefit of a growing number of users from multiple sectors and around the world.

Groups Waiting for Participation to Form

Call-to-action announcements were previously released for the following groups which are waiting for participants to join. Groups will launch once membership minimums are met. Groups at risk for cancellation will be noted. For more information or to join the group, click the link provided:

Standards Maintenance Group (SMG):

  • GSMP Traceability and Event Sharing SMG - will maintain updates to the GS1 EPCglobal standards that support physical event capture and sharing and the Global Traceability Standard that supports tracking and tracing of goods and information about the goods


Mission Specific Work Groups (MSWGs)

  • GSMP GDS Key Validation MSWG - ensuring correct use of GS1 keys, especially GTINs. Catching an invalid key at, or close to, the source will improve overall data quality and thus cut costs for all parties involved in the supply chain.

    This group needs only 1 more retailer to launch!
     
  • GSMP AIDC Healthcare Application Standard Updates MSWG - will update GS1 standards including the GS1 General Specification and Healthcare GTIN Allocation Rules in the areas of: Healthcare kit, configurable medical device and software identification. 

    This group needs healthcare providers/hospitals,  group purchasing organizations (GPO), distributors and resellers to launch!
     
  • GSMP GS1 Tag Data & Translation Standard 1.7 MSWG - will add functionality to the GS1 EPC RFID tag structures for consumer choice in retail.

    This group seeks companies that use software to write to EPC tags and distribution companies that read EPC tags. Solution providers and retailers are also needed.

Global Data Synchronisation (GDS) Standards Maintenance Group (SMG) Community Reviews

Work Request No.: 12-000143
Business Purpose:  While some markets only need a high level brand distribution category, other markets need additional segregation of the item. This change for the Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) will add an attribute that is optional and repeating to enable this functionality.

Business Purpose:   Add codes to GDSN to enable retailers to communicate to suppliers a "Declaration of compliance for materials and products" as required by EC Regulation  2023/2006 and EC Regulation 1935/2004.  In general, the regulations require that food contact materials are:

  • Safe
  • Manufactured according to good manufacturing practice
  • Traceable throughout the production chain

In addition, the regulations establish groups of materials and articles which may be covered by specific measures. The specific measures may cover also combinations of different materials or recycled materials.

Global Data Synchronisation (GDS) Standards Maintenance Group (SMG) eBallot

Work Request No.: 12-000057
Business Purpose:  In order to support information regarding commercial types and variety types of fruits and vegetables to support the EU regulation on produce quality. This will allow data recipients to better understand, when looking at a particular fruit or vegetable, that they can offer a selection to their consumers and an expected quality.
